Growing Sweet Carrots in Small Spaces

Carrots grow well in deep pots and raised beds. Short and round varieties are perfect for containers and still give a sweet, crunchy harvest.

Sowing Carrot Seeds

Sow seeds thinly in loose, stone-free soil about 1 cm deep. Carrot seeds are slow to sprout, so keep the surface damp for two to three weeks.

Thinning Seedlings

When seedlings are a few centimetres tall, thin them so each carrot has about 5 cm of space. Crowded carrots stay small and twisted.

Harvesting Carrots

Most carrots are ready ten to twelve weeks after sowing. Water the soil before pulling so the roots slide out easily without snapping.
